Great wines are made in the vineyard, and the Ventana Vineyard has the perfect combination of water, soil, climate, art and science to create superb, world-class wines.

entana is known for its unique planting style and phenomenal Estate wines.  This sought after vineyard is owned by a small group of local growers who have lived and worked in the region for generations.  It is tended by Steve McIntyre of Monterey Pacific, who has brought innovative sustainable farming practices to the vineyard.
The Ventana Vineyard was planted in 1974.  The vineyard was named "Ventana," Spanish for "window," because the vineyard lies up against the Ventana Wilderness in Monterey County, but also because it symbolized a "window to the future" in California viticulture.  At the time, there were very few vineyards in the area, but today, Monterey has taken its rightful place beside Napa and Sonoma as one of the great wine regions of California.
The Arroyo Seco American Viticultural area (AVA) within Monterey County, California is world-renowned for being one of the best Chardonnay-growing climates, benefiting from the long cool growing season and mid afternoon winds. With over thirty years of awards, Ventana leads the way in defining great Chardonnay by producing a balanced, luscious wine with exotic tropical flavors and enhanced with the finest oak. Pinot Noir is another varietal that flourishes with intense fruit flavors in the cool AVA, delighting the taste buds with a dark cherry essence. Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer also excel here.
Ventana was the first to plant Syrah in Monterey County, eleven years before other commercial plantings. The Arroyo Seco AVA produces a Syrah with deep flavors of blackberry, boysenberry and black pepper. Ventana's Rhone Style Blend of Syrah and Grenache Noir named "Rubystone", displays the best characteristics of each varietal, creating a wine that combines fruit, structure and balance into a seamless whole. Our wines come from a blend of tradition, research and proven technique, but we continue to learn even more about our fascinating terroir, sustainable vineyard practices and the art of winemaking.
