Fresno County is located in Southern California, USA. It was created in 1856 and is named after the numerous ash trees lining the San Joaquin River ("Fresno" is Spanish for ash tree). The county has a total area of about 6,011 square miles, and about 99% of it is land.
The county seat is Fresno, which is the fifth largest city in California and sixty-first largest in the U.S. Other cities include Clovis, Reedley, Sanger, Selma, and more. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 1,010,385, making it the 10th most populous county in the state.
