Lidio Carraro

By planting grapes, many families settled in Rio Grande do Sul producing wines, but the Carraro family decided to grow grapes, becoming specialized in viticulture. In the ‘70s, Mr. Lidio Carraro stood out as one of the leaders of the deployment of vitisviniferagrapes in Serra Gaucha, being one of the pioneers of planting Merlot. From '90s, began an obsessive quest to find and develop the best vineyards, motivated by love for viticulture and determinationof having the work devoted to vines, expressedin the wines. Even in the ‘90s, Juliano Carraro started his enology studies at university and his willingness to produce wines touched the whole family. Rossetti;technician in Viticulture and Enology at that stage;joined Lidio Carraro winery project, taking charge of winemakingwith the mission of bringing knowledge to business and translatingto the wines the company pursuit of excellence. In 2001, Lidio Carraro winerystarted operating as a winery. In the same year the family acquired 200 acres in Encruzilhada do Sul, Southeast regionof Rio Grande do Sul state. Later on, this areabecame arecognized as a prestigious wine region in Brazil. Earliest harvest of Vale dos Vinhedosvineyards took place in 2002, what made possible to create Lidio Carraro first wines, which came out to the market in 2004. Shortly thereafter, the winery wins a selection to represent Brazilian wines atDuty-free international airports’ stores, becoming the first Brazilian producer to do it, in its own country. It was an opening doors to the world and Lidio Carraro startedarising international attention, leading to the first export, that happens in 2005.
